Endorsement

“I am endorsing Gwen Nabad to succeed me as Ward 1 city councilor because she is the only candidate with experience in Northampton municipal government who will bring a unique voice to the City Council and an understanding of the wide range of services required to meet the needs of vulnerable residents.

I urge you to join me in voting for Gwen in the preliminary election Sept. 16 and the general election Nov. 4.

Gwen stands for equity and a holistic approach to closing inequality gaps in housing, public education and responding to the climate crisis.

As chair of the Northampton Housing Partnership, Gwen understands the need to add housing at all income levels, while paying particular attention to providing for lower-income and working families, seniors and people with disabilities.

Gwen is a long-time renter in subsidized housing and the parent of children who received special education services in the public schools. She is active in Grow Food Northampton and a member of the Northampton Survival Center's client advisory committee.

As a result of those experiences, Gwen is a strong advocate for tenants' rights; sustainable, inclusive schools; climate justice; and food security.

Gwen will listen to all her constituents and consider the needs of the entire city while bringing an independent voice to the City Council.” ~ Incumbent City Councilor for Ward 1, Stanley Moulton

Endorsement: “Outside of Ward 5, I'm supporting Gwen Nabad for Ward 1 Councilor.” ~ Incumbent City Council President, Alex Jarrett

Welcome! I’m Gwen Nabad, the most qualified candidate for Ward 1 City Council. I currently chair the Northampton Housing Partnership and I’m active at Grow Food Northampton. Equity is the bedrock theme of my campaign.

I will work with and for residents in Ward 1 to close inequality gaps in housing, climate, and education:

  • Housing: Northampton must continue to build and preserve housing at all income levels, with special focus on affordable housing for lower-income neighbors, especially seniors, people with disabilities, and working families. I will listen to residents across the ward’s neighborhoods to understand your housing needs and goals.

  • Climate and Environment: Northampton must continue to meet statewide climate goals. Climate justice and environmental health is crucial to the well-being of all residents. I understand how these issues impact lives through my engagement with Grow Food Northampton and my advocacy for green space in multifamily housing. As a member of City Council I will continue to advocate for a climate resilient future.

  • Education: Northampton has seen tremendous energy around our public schools since the Covid pandemic as many children fell behind. I will advocate for sustainable schools that equitably invest in our most vulnerable students across all schools. With the removal of MCAS as a graduation requirement, our schools have an opportunity to think creatively and long-term about what we want public education in Northampton to be.

Please contact me to get involved! We love volunteers! Please consider donating - no amount is too small! I understand the value of every dollar. Thank you so much for your interest in my campaign!
